Droplet motion by Leidenfrost phenomenon on Zn plate surfaces with and without ZnO nanorods

چکیده

Zinc oxide nanorods (ZnO-NR) were prepared on Zn plates with a ratchet structure by hydrothermal processing. Then the Leidenfrost phenomenon of sample was evaluated after coating fluoroalkyl silane. After formation ZnO-NR, temperature decreased approximately 20 °C. The terminal velocity self-propelled droplets depended temperature. dominant mechanism for self-propulsion water without ZnO-NR at 160–200 °C nucleate boiling and resultant volume expansion, but it switched to gravity temperatures higher than 200 Because suppressed adhesion onto wall because appeared be droplet all temperatures, both lower modification plate surface. However, when formed every other ratchet, increased lowered self-propulsion. estimated 160 exceeded that ZnO-NR.

Simulating droplet motion on virtual leaf surfaces

A curvilinear thin film model is used to simulate the motion of droplets on a virtual leaf surface, with a view to better understand the retention of agricultural sprays on plants. The governing model, adapted from Roy et al. (2002 J. Fluid Mech. 454, 235-261 (doi:10.1017/S0022112001007133)) with the addition of a disjoining pressure term, describes the gravity- and curvature-driven flow of a s...

Rebounding droplet-droplet collisions on superhydrophobic surfaces: from the phenomenon to droplet logic.

When water droplets impact each other while traveling on a superhydrophobic surface, we demonstrate that they are able to rebound like billiard balls. We present elementary Boolean logic operations and a flip-flop memory based on these rebounding water droplet collisions. Furthermore, bouncing or coalescence can be easily controlled by process parameters. Thus by the controlled coalescence of r...

ZnO nanorods prepared via ablation of Zn with millisecond laser in liquid media.

ZnO nanomaterials with controlled size, shape and surface chemistry are required for applications in diverse areas, such as optoelectronics, photocatalysis, biomedicine and so on. Here, we report on ZnO nanostructures with rod-like and spherical shapes prepared via laser ablation in liquid using a laser with millisecond-long pulses. By changing laser parameters (such as pulse width and peak pow...

Self-Propelled Hovercraft Based on Cold Leidenfrost Phenomenon

The Leidenfrost phenomenon of liquid droplets levitating and dancing when placed upon a hot plate due to propulsion of evaporative vapor has been extended to many self-propelled circumstances. However, such self-propelled Leidenfrost devices commonly need a high temperature for evaporation and a structured solid substrate for directional movements. Here we observed a "cold Leidenfrost phenomeno...
